The English Patient – Michael Ondaatje – 1992

I found the book before the film was released. It was a most pleasurable and certainly surprising reading. I had already come to the conclusion that nowadays literature was capable no longer of providing the readers so basic needs as travel in time and space, emotion and fine romanticism. A tale about love in wartime and about war in love, Ondaatje displays himself as a learned literarian still disposed to use imagination and passion when writing a touching tale, something strange in our days. Whoever reads it, will find not only narrative, but poetry.
