This is the best most-timely read I have had in years. If you want to know the behind-the-scenes Middle East these books are hypnotic. Durrell has suspended time and approached the truth from 4 perspectives to give an ultimate truth and dimension to these works of fiction. To an outsider, on the Middle East, this is as close as you can get to the true experience. Really timely and not at all dated. These books are as current as yesterday’s headlines, and you are set down in the middle of an enigma that you will be inhaling these books in a frantic race to their conclusion. Really phenomonal masterpieces.
