I am a Frenchman (of France, Europe) who read this book. I think this book is a masterpiece of the French-Canadian literature. This book presents in a very good way the difficult life and hardships of a Canadian timber-driver. Although simple, the words the writer uses are very beautiful, pastoral and evocative. They have the power of transporting the reader into the Canadian wilderness. In my opinion, this book is really a gem.
