Ayşe Kulin’s book tells the love story between Selva, the daughter of an Ottoman Pasha during the Nazi period of the WWII, and Rafael, a young Jewish man. Although the book’s main theme is love, it also refers to the role of Ottoman diplomacy during the WWII. The language is fluent and the plot works. I recommend reading this book.”
