The discovery of the year so far. Houellebecq is a very controversial novelist, very famous in France. This is probably his least-controversial novel, but I consider it to be excellent and recommend it to friends at ReadLit. The future of post-industrial Europe, the art market and what it says about our cultural situation, the loneliness of modern European societies, and much more. The author is a character in the novel, in a surprising way.
